Good to the Bone Dog Training’s owner, Wendy DeSarno is a certified trainer, who utilizes only the most modern, reward-based training techniques.

Wendy is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT), professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), and she has been employed by the ASPCA as a pet behavior counselor.

During her time at the ASPCA, Wendy worked with the Animal Behavior Department to implement behavior modification programs to evaluate, train, and rehabilitate shelter dogs so they may become eligible for adoption. Wendy continues to volunteer her time and skills to the ASPCA, counseling prospective adopters about humane training methods and responsible dog ownership.

After obtaining a BA in Media Studies from Hofstra University, Wendy continued her professional education at the SF/SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers, earning an honors Certificate in Training and Behavior Counseling (CTC). Known as the “Harvard for Dog Trainers,” this intensive program pairs students with the industry’s best dog trainers in NY, including the director, Jean Donaldson, author of The Culture Clash, Mine!, Fight!, Dogs Are From Neptune.

Presently, Wendy teaches group dog training classes and offers private dog behavior consultations.   She specializes in on-leash reactivity, believing dog walks should be a relaxing, enjoyable experience for both dog and owner.  She currently resides in Astoria, where she is an active part of the dog-owning community.

My philosophy is one that dogs are not just pets; they are valued members of our families and loving companions. That’s why I strongly believe in strengthening the bond between human and companion animal. I regard training as an exercise in building relationship to achieve greater understanding and symbiosis so that people and their pets can live a harmonious life.

Ms. DeSarno has developed a number of programs and classes that will help dog owners achieve this harmony. Group classes are a great way to teach your dog to stay focused on you, even with other dogs and people in close proximity!

Please take a look at the classes that we have in store for you and your puppy:

This class is designed to help you better understand your dog, enhance communication, and teach your dog to make good choices.

With an emphasis on impulse control, you will learn how to apply essential obedience commands, including sit, stay, come, leave-it, and loose-leash walking to your daily life.

Whether this is your first attempt at training your dog, or you are building on the skills learned in previous training endeavors, you and your dog will benefit from this life-changing class while having a blast! Dogs 6 months or older are welcome.

This class meets for one hour each week for six weeks.
The fee for the class is $300.

Want to learn how to communicate with your new canine friend and have tons of fun in the process?

Our classes focus on teaching bite-inhibition (gentle jaws), socialization, household manners and obedience (sit, down, come, and more!).

You will learn how to housetrain your pup, as well as how to prevent and troubleshoot common behavior problems, such as barking, nipping, and chewing. Classes also include puppy playtime, where your pup will learn vital socialization skills, which can prevent fear-based aggression as your puppy matures.

Owners will learn how to communicate with their pups, in order to raise a well-adjusted new member of the family!

All puppies 8 weeks to 5.5 months are welcome. It’s never too early to start teaching and socializing your puppy!

This class meets for one hour each week for six weeks.
The fee for the class is $300.

Please check back soon as we announce more classes! Coming soon: Reliable Recall (teach your dog to come when called no matter what!), Tricks Class (impress your friends and family with silly dog tricks!), and lots more!

Good to the Bone Dog Training also offers private lessons to help you with a variety of behavior issues.
